A CEO in the Dust: Michael Moran's Hands-On Leadership

Meeting Michael on site is much like stepping into a live design performance — a carefully choreographed dance between precision and passion. There he is, sleeves rolled up, meticulously checking every corner, every finish, every line of a design in progress.

It’s rare these days to see a CEO so deeply embedded in the dust and detail of construction, conversing with craftsmen and clients alike. But then again, Michael — isn’t your typical executive. He is the Founder and CEO of Meiger, one of Cheshire’s most fast-rising interior design studios known for its discreet luxury, obsessive attention to detail, and what he calls “the Meiger Way.”

A man who prefers being behind the scenes rather than in front of the camera, Mike embodies the very essence of understated excellence — quietly shaping homes that speak volumes.

A Day in the Life of Meiger's Perfectionist Founder

Q: Hi Mike, what does a normal day look like for you?

A: Not a balanced lifestyle, definitely not! (laughs) Most mornings I’m on the road quite early, heading to sites where we have ongoing projects. I’ll check the progress, catch up with the construction team, and talk directly with clients — that’s something I’ll never delegate.

Depending on the schedule, I might then meet new partners or clients, or head back to the office to work with the design team on layouts, 3D floors, or bespoke details that need my attention. It’s busy, but that’s how I like it. I’ve never been good at sitting still.

From Kitchen Foundations to Whole-Home Mastery

Q: Meiger began with kitchen interiors. How has that foundation shaped your journey?

A: Kitchens are the heart — and the hardest part — of any home. They demand precision in every sense: space planning, ergonomics, material integrity, and aesthetics. You can’t afford to make mistakes because it’s a space where function and beauty must coexist seamlessly.

Working with high-end kitchens means perfection isn’t optional — it’s expected. That mindset shaped Meiger from day one. Our team learned to attend to every detail, every millimetre. It’s both a challenge and a gift. Because once you master the kitchen, you’ve built the foundation to master the home.

That’s also what opened doors for us to evolve into high-end residential projects. Clients who experience excellence in one room often ask for it throughout their entire house.

Q: Is that what motivated you to transform Meiger into one of Cheshire’s pioneering haute interior design studios?

A: Partly, yes. After 15 years in the industry, I recognised a gap — an increasing demand for refined, customized kitchen & interiors, but not enough studios capable of delivering that level of precision and execution in the North West.

We saw our competitive advantage clearly: bringing timeless design and flawless craftsmanship together under one roof. I’m a very realistic person — some might say overly so — but I believe great design only matters when it’s executed perfectly. Precision is my obsession (laughs).

We’ve been fortunate to work with an extraordinary range of clients across Cheshire and the wider North West — homeowners who value discretion, trust, and exceptional quality. Most of our new business now comes through word of mouth, which I think is the best compliment you can receive in this industry.

At our core, we stay true to what we call the Meiger Way: don’t talk too much, focus on the work, and collaborate only with the best — whether that’s Italian furniture houses or German manufacturers.

The Meiger Way: Professionalism, Precision, Perfection, Personalisation

Q: You’ve mentioned “The Meiger Way.” Can you tell us more about that philosophy?

A: It’s something that evolved naturally through years of practice and reflection. Eventually, I distilled it into four key principles — what we call the 4Ps of Meiger: Professionalism, Precision, Perfection, and Personalisation.

Every home we design is deeply personal. It’s not about our signature — it’s about theirs. A home should reflect its owner’s lifestyle, taste, and passions. We see each project as a legacy piece, something that endures.

That mindset runs through the whole team which I always take my pride in.

What's Next: The Alderley Edge Haute Design Experience

Q: What’s next for Meiger? Any exciting plans on the horizon?

A: Absolutely. We’re about to open our first haute interior design experience showroom in the heart of Alderley Edge, which we’re incredibly excited about. It’s more than just a showroom — it’s an experience space.

We’re curating a place where clients can explore the best of contemporary European design — Italian and German furniture, materials, smart home technologies — all in one elegant setting. It will make the design process more immersive and personal, helping clients visualise and feel what’s possible for their kitchens and homes.

But beyond that, our ambition is to make it a creative hub — a meeting point for designers, artists, and architects to share ideas and inspiration. A space where design becomes conversation. Every client who walks in will be served privately, with the same care and attention we bring to our projects.
